University of Michigan: Continued Education

Just because someone is deaf does not mean they should be denied upper education opportunities, and fortunately, there are two scholarship opportunities offered by the University of Michigan that underscore this notion. The Adam Miller Fund was established in 1999 by Marlene and Alex Miller (parents of Adam). The fund provides enrichment assistance for University of Michigan students with hearing, visual or mobility disabilities. Personal assistive devices, personal training, extracurricular and social activities, learning experiences and community outreach initiatives are provided by this memorial fund. These aids and experiences enrich the University years of students with disabilities and allow them to fully contribute to their community and achieve their personal best. The Saul and Shirley Lederer Fund also honors Adam Miller (the Lederer’s grandson) with two recipients being chosen on an annual basis for awards of 1000 each. To be eligible for the award the applicants must be enrolled at the University of Michigan and be active within the university community. Students must submit a current academic transcript and a brief essay detailing the intended use of the award fund.
